Delamination of texture on drywall surfaces is an expensive and apparently increasing problem. Job site investigation of this problem reveals not one cause, but several. Read more >>>
Maintenance of Texture Spray Equipment
Proper maintenance of spray equipment is essential to prevent spoilage of the texture mix and the resulting odor and discoloration problems. This is particularly true in warm weather which promotes bacterial growth. Following are our recommendations for maintenance:
1. Texture mix should not be left in the tanks for prolonged periods. It is more desirable to dump leftover materials than to attempt to correct odor or discoloration problems on a finished job.
2. Tanks and hoses should be flushed with clean water on a regular basis. As an added precaution, flushing with a solution of 3% bleach (3 gallons of bleach per 100 gallons of water) is recommended.
3. Stainless steel tanks are great. They inhibit the pitting and rust experienced in regular carbon steel tanks which give bacteria a good place to hide, but they do not kill or prohibit bacteria.
4. Do not spray material which has an offensive odor, is discolored or foamy. Again, dumping the material is less expensive than fixing the problem.
5. If an odor, foaminess or discoloration is detected, the material should be dumped and the tanks disinfected. A bleach solution of 5% is recommended (5 gallons of chlorine bleach to 100 gallons of tank capacity) for this purpose. Flush tanks and hoses with clean water, fill tank, add bleach, and circulate the solution through the hoses into the tank for 5 minutes. Allow the equipment to sit for 12 to 24 hours, pump out the solution and flush with clean water.
6. If a continuing problem is encountered, contact your Hamilton dealer, sales representative or our sales office.
Hamilton makes every effort to produce the highest quality products available to the professional texture contractor. You are assured that our spray materials, when applied as recommended, with clean, well-maintained equipment, will provide good results.
